Poole Harbour Trails
The Poole Harbour Trails Community Group was formed to work on the creation of a new National Trail around Poole Harbour. Using public rights of way and access land, it is already possible to walk around most of the harbour and 6 linear walks have been developed by the group to cover the entire circuit. 3 of these walks have already appeared in East Dorset programmes. Walks leaflets can now be found on the Group's web site on its walks page and for sale at tourist information offices and the linear walks have now been waymarked with small, green roundels.
All England Coastal Access
In 2009 the Government passed the Marine and Coastal Access Act which for the first time gives us the right to a coastal path round England. Dorset is the first place in England for people to get this right of access to the coast along the 17 mile Weymouth Stretch.
Dorset County Councilís Coastal Rangers and Coastal Access Officer ran an event on Sunday 1st July 2012.
On Friday 6th July 2012 Dorset Ramblers walked the whole length of the 17 mile Weymouth stretch of the new Coast Path. Kate Ashbrook, President of the Ramblers, joined the walk and performed a path-opening ceremony by cutting a ribbon.
Page updated 5th January 2019.
