Note that our walks programme is no longer included with the Newsletter. You can access all East Dorset Group walks from our Walks page and the walks of all other groups via The Ramblers Go Walking pages.

Important Vacancies

Following the East Dorset Group AGM, there are still the following vacancies on our committee: Programe Distributor, Newsletter Editor, Membership Secretary, a Footpath Secretary for the Bournemouth area and an Area Council Representative. Also there are vacancies for three committee members without a particular role.

If you would like more information about one or more of these roles, please get in touch with the East Dorset Group Contact using the details on our Contacts page

East Dorset Group AGM

Our most recent AGM was held on Saturday 25 November 2023 at 2 pm, in the Skittle Alley, Hamworthy Club, Magna Road, Canford Magna.

No one came forward to fill the committee vacancies.

Ramblers Dorset Area AGM

The latest Dorset Area AGM took place on Saturday 18th November 2023. Area Council is still in need of a secretary. This would be a good role for someone who likes to know what is going on with The Ramblers.

Look at the Dorset Area Website for information about current vacancies on Dorset Area Council.

East Dorset Group author

One of our members, Simon Bowden, has published a book of his poems, "Gifts of the Dark". He says the book is inspired by the mental quietness we can achieve through walking and being in nature.

The Ramblers’ new website

On May 31st the Ramblers opened its new website. See our walks page for new links to your walks.

Dorset Area Picnic 2023

The Ramblers Groups in Dorset have planned a wide variety of walks for Area Picnic Day, 11th June. Take a look at the list of walks.

Sad death of member

Possibly not many of the members of the East Dorset Group will remember Brenda Evans but sadly last month Brenda died aged 90. She was a regular walker with the Group back in the 1980s and 1990s and for several years the Group Secretary. Her funeral took place at Lytchett Minister Crematorium.

Coach trip

East Dorset Group is organising a coach trip to the City of Chichester on Saturday 29th July. If you would like further details and how to join in, please contact our Social Secretary using the details given in your programme.

Winter Meal

Our last winter meal took place in February, a success as usual.

Dorset Coast Path Photoshoot

To maintain momentum on the the coast path countdown, the Ramblers organised a successful photoshoot on Sunday 30th October from 11am to 3pm to give some autumnal images of coastal walking featuring some East Dorset Group members.

Offer on Jubilee Trail Guides

Please see our Jubilee Trail Guides offer.

Jubilee Trail walks 2022

During the weekend of 24th to 25th September 2022, Dorset Area of The Ramblers arranged, with the help of all Dorset Groups, a programme of walks using The Jubilee Trail, in memory of Rosemary Bramah, who for many years looked after the Trail on behalf of Ramblers in Dorset. Over the weekend there were four walks on parts of the Jubilee Trail lying within the East Dorset Group catchment area.

Further information about the Jubilee Trail can be found on the Dorset Area website here.

Dorset Area Picnic walks, new date

Owing to the very hot weather, the Dorset Area Inter Group Picnic walks on 17th July were all cancelled.

The walks took place on 2nd October 2022.

Wessex Wanderers

Have a look at the Wessex Wanderers website - these interesting train walks are starting again this summer. Instead of the usual printed programme of the walks for the whole summer, the walks will be listed on the website as a rolling programme.

East Dorset Group Coach Trip 2022

In July 2022, members of our group went to Wells by coach for the day. While some joined a local walk, others spent the time looking around Wells.

Our Social Secretary would be interested to hear from you with any ideas for our 2023 coach trip. See the Social Secretary's contact details on our Contacts page.

East Dorset Group Winter Meal

Our Winter Meal took place on Saturday 5th February 2022

All restrictions lifted, February 2022

Please keep up the habit of checking on GWEM regarding any walk you want to join. Walks occasionally have to be cancelled at very short notice if the leader is unwell or has to self-isolate.

Annual General Meeting, East Dorset Group

The East Dorset Group Annual General Meeting took place on Monday 22nd November at the Hamworthy Club.

Annual General Meeting, Dorset Area

The 2021 Ramblers Dorset Area AGM was held on Saturday 27th November 2021 at 2 pm using Zoom.

At the meeting it was agreed that Area Council would go into abeyance, as a new secretary was not elected but this did NOT mean that Dorset Area would cease functioning, or be ’wound up’, but rather that it will give us some breathing space, and enable us to consider what opportunities this might offer.
