Ramblers’ App

If you take a mobile device out with you, how about putting the Ramblers’ app on it?

Use it to find East Dorset Group walks or walks put on by other groups. There are also special offers for you and Ramblers’ articles of current interest.

You can find details of how to put it on your device in the Google Play Store or at the Ramblers web site. You will need your membership number to set this up and you will need to log in to the site but you will not need to use either of these subsequently.

Privacy Policy

Your membership details are held by The Ramblers at their Central Office. Here is their Ramblers’ Privacy Policy.

The East Dorset Group uses some of this information but takes your privacy very seriously. Have a look at our Group Data Protection document to see how we approach this.

Vacancies

We have an urgent vacancy for a footpath secretary for the area of East Dorset. Footpath secretaries provide assistance to members who have discovered footpath problems and provide the view of the Ramblers to any local enquiry on creation, diversion or extinguishment of local footpaths. Help is available from current footpath secretaries to any member who would like to volunteer for one of these important roles.

We also need a Membership Secretary, a Newsletter Editor and a Newsletter Distributor.

We have three remaining vacancies for committee members. Committee members are East Dorset Group members who want to help the committee make decisions on current issues but do not wish to take on a specific role.

How to join our committee

Please get in touch with us using the contact details below, or from your programme, if you would like to be considered as a member for our committee. This does not have to be at the time of an AGM.

Change of address

Have you just changed your address or are you about to do so? We do not hold addresses at group level. Instead, your address is held by the central office of the Ramblers and they produce all our address labels. So if you change your address, please could you contact them directly in one of the following ways.

The quickest method is to log in to the Ramblers web site and update your own profile there. Login or create an account here.

Or you can write, with your membership number and old and new addresses, to: The Ramblers, 13 Dirty Lane, London SE1 9PA, or email the Ramblers. Alternatively, you can telephone them at 02039 613300.

Leaders

East Dorset Group could do with some more leaders. If you are interested in the idea of becoming one of our leaders, please contact the Leaders’ Co-ordinator, whose details are given in Rambling On, our newsletter. We have a number of current leaders who would be happy to help any new leaders, perhaps by accompanying them on the route of a walk they would like to put on the programme.

Children on Walks

East Dorset Group welcomes children on walks. We would still ask any adult bringing children on a walk to be sure to take responsibility for all aspects of their welfare at all times on the walk.

Newsletter not wanted

If you no longer wish to receive printed copies of Rambling On and Footnotes, you can alter your own preferences online.

Log in on the main Ramblers website using the Ramblers logo at the top of this page and, on the top line, go to My Account

Once there, go to Update Profile and then Contact Preferences. Check the box next to “Please do not send me any walk programmes”.

Walks using public transport

Most of East Dorset Group’s walks are not accessible by public transport. However, some members do not have their own car and others would prefer to use public transport for environmental reasons so the Group tries to make some walks by public transport available. We put on a few bus and train walks, which are walks dependent on public transport and where a place for parking cars is not necessarily offered and some bus or train accessible walks, where both a place for parking cars and a suitable bus or train route are mentioned in the programme. Here are guidelines to walks using public transport for you to download.

Constitution

If you would like to see the current constitution, here is the 2008 constitution. If you would like a copy sent to you, please send contact details to us.

And if you are not already a member, why not find out about joining here?

The Walking Partnership and Ramblers Worldwide Holidays

East Dorset Group has signed up to join the Walking Partnership. If you, as a member of East Dorset Group, take a holiday with Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, the Walking Partnership will make a contribution to our group's funds. Find your holiday at the Ramblers Worldwide Holidays web site.

You can also find private group holidays here.
